AED Grants for Youth Organizations

Learn how you can get an automated external defibrillator for your child’s school, sports organization, daycare or community organization.

The AED grant program has been temporarily suspended due to AED supply chain issues coupled with budgetary constraints. We anticipate reopening this program during the summer of 2023.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Grants for Youth Organizations

With the increased awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest, it is becoming more of a liability for youth-based organizations to not have an AED. Is your child’s school or league prepared? If not, and you’d like to make sure your child’s facility or program is heart-safe, please click the button/link and complete our request form.

CPR/AED Frequently Asked Questions

What if I hurt the victim by pushing too hard on their chest during CPR?
If you’re administering CPR to a person, it is likely because you’ve determined there is no pulse nor breath. The person is technically deceased and will not complain of a broken rib. CPR and AED therapy are the only hope for reviving the victim, so give it your all.
Can I be sued for trying to save a person with CPR or by using an AED?
The Good Samaritan Law* protects any individual who acts in good faith in an effort to revive a person who is unresponsive, including medically-trained professionals. You’re likely, however, to face litigation if you do nothing in the case of a cardiac emergency. Likewise, it is becoming more of a liability for public buildings and businesses to NOT have an AED readily available in case of emergency.
I don't want to hurt someone by using an AED! What if they don't really need to be shocked?
Today’s AEDs, like much of our newer tools of technology, are smart machines. Several models do not even require a button to be pushed to administer shock. An AED is able to assess the state of a victim’s heart rhythm. If even the slightest rhythm is detected, the AED will not fire an electrical pulse of energy to the victim. Similarly, if a responder is in contact with the victim, the AED will not administer shock.
In order to use an AED, don't I have to be trained?

In a perfect world, every student would be trained in CPR/AED use, and every adult would complete the re-certification every three years. However, because AEDs are now so intelligent, they are practically “dummy-proof”. Anyone can use an AED by simply opening it up and following the voice instructions. In one study, 10-year-olds who had never seen an AED were given a device in a simulated emergency situation and told to figure out how to save the victim. It took the children only 20 seconds longer to respond appropriately than CPR/AED trained adults.
